i wondering if had advice on cross browser wysiwyg editor producing lsits, bold , italic. don't want use markdown because users not computer friendly, , don't need them have many controls.
my experience of wysiwyg editors huge sledgehammers , want crack open small nut.
any input appreciated.

and since mentioned basecamp, have new rich text editor (written basecamp 3): https://github.com/basecamp/trix
trix targets modern browsers (ie11+), if need older ie support, wysihtml may still better choice.

i believe it's used on basecamp.
supported in ie8+, ff 3.5+, safari 4+, safari on ios 5+, opera 11+ , chrome.
