Modbus RTU and ASCII on the same RS485 cable -

i have read datas devices connected through rs485-usb serial communication cable. devices use modbus rtu except 1 uses modbus ascii.
can speak 2 protocols on same cable? think rtu units not reply ascii requests , vice-versa, may lead problems? tried or had experience?

i don't have device here try , have setup directly @ client's place.

this ideal configuration

pc_usb----------rs485+rtu------rs485+rtu------rs485+rtu------rs485+ascii

if doesn't work i'll have switch solution following

pc_usb----------rs485+rtu------rs485+rtu------rs485+rtu
pc_usb----------rs485+ascii

that problematic due constraints on hardware, cables , location.

the short answer yes. can speak many protocols want on rs485 long messages doesn't ambiguous.

i have many pv inverters on shared rs485 line , many other sensors speak complete different protocol. 2 class of devices share same line no problem.
